KNOW THIS.
Sneckdown Season
If you made it outside this weekend, you probably saw the piles and piles of snow that dumped on our little metro area along with fabulous, naturally-occurring sneckdowns (snow + neckdown). These curb extensions appear after snowfall as the negative space left untouched by the paths that traffic carves out on snowy roads, to the elation of city planners and transit nerds alike. These citizen-made traffic easers show how much of the road is actually being used by vehicles and how much can be reclaimed as public space with the likes of curb extensions, bike lanes, and urban greenery. Head to the #sneckdown tag on Twitter to see examples from this weekend and learn more about the reason for the season in this fantastic Streetsblog Mass post.
